Legionella Control Monitoring Services

Are your water systems compliant? If laboratory samples were taken today, what would the results be? If you are responsible for a water system, it is essential to have a legionella control monitoring and inspection program in place.

The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems

A crucial aspect of ACoP L8 – The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems is that after completing a Legionella risk
assessment, a written monitoring plan to control the identified risks of Legionella must be prepared. This plan outlines the chosen control measures, how they will be implemented, and the frequency of management and monitoring. A comprehensive record of all
precautions and recommendations should be maintained in a dedicated site logbook. Learn more about the steps Water Hygiene

Your Health & Safety Obligations

ACoP L8 mandates that following a Legionella risk assessment, you must prepare a written monitoring plan to control the identified
risks of Legionella.

How We Monitor Water Systems

Morgan Environmental provides a system logbook to document legionella control monitoring tasks, including:

  • Weekly flushing of infrequently used services
  • Monthly monitoring of sentinel and representative outlet temperatures
  • Monthly checking of calorifier/hot water vessel flow and return temperatures
  • Quarterly cleaning and disinfection of domestic shower spray nozzles
  • Quarterly subordinate loop temperature checks
  • Biannual flushing of expansion vessel drain points
  • Biannual checks of POU water heater temperatures
  • Annual inspections of cold water storage tanks
  • Annual inspections of calorifier drain water
  • Annual servicing of TMVs/TMTs
  • UKAS accredited laboratory testing for leg
  • Calorifier internal borescope inspections

A Morgan Environmental technician will visit your premises regularly to ensure risks are minimized. Temperatures and conditions
will be compared with parameters detailed in HSG 274 Part 2, which governs the control of legionella in hot and cold water
systems. Adherence to the control scheme is crucial, and actions should be consistently managed and monitored.

System Log Book

A detailed record of all precautions must be kept in a site logbook, which serves as necessary evidence for all health and safety inspections. Morgan Environmental offers three options for record-keeping: cloud-based record storage, Zetasafe asset management, and the traditional hardback site logbook.

Recommendations & Remedial Action

If conditions are identified that could foster the growth of legionella bacteria, recommendations will be made to mitigate the risk.
