ROV Inspections
ROV Water TANK Inspections Minimising Risk Maximising Efficiency & Productivity
Inline with HSG 274 part 2 the control of legionella bacteria in hot & cold water systems water tanks should be annually inspected.
This may pose an issue when tanks are of excessive size to obtain a full picture of the true internal condition when looking down
into a tank from a considerable height.
TB203.3.5 two-yearly routine; states that sprinkler water storage tanks are to be inspected.
Morgan Environmental service technician team have the capability to carry out online ROV inspections of large volume water tanks to determine their internal conditions whilst also identifying any underlying visual problems with internal components.
The asset can remain online whilst the inspection works are carried out thus eliminating the need for production down time where draining & refilling of an asset would have to be carried out to undertake an internal inspection.
Furthermore one of our inspection ROV’s can be fitted with a claw attachment that has a payload of up to 12kg. This service can be useful for example when resetting the position of an internal pump, retrieving a sensor, ballcock or items which have fallen into the
tank over the years.
All our equipment is disinfected to industry standards prior to entering at water tank to ensure the client there is no cross contamination from previous works at other sites.
Our ROV’s can work in depths up to 100M and at a maximum temperature of 40oC. Run time is up to 3-6hrs on a full charge of battery.
Assets where a ROV inspections are beneficial –
- Potable water tanks
- Fire sprinkler tanks
- Rain water harvesting tanks
- process water tanks
- Evaporative cooling towers
- Surf lagoons
- Theme parks
- Swimming pools
- Open water
Key advantages include:
- Avoiding confined space entry.
- Reducing risks like structural or liner failure that can occur during tank draining or refilling.
- Allowing the system to remain operational.
- Minimising environmental impact by conserving water.
- Requiring minimal management oversight.
- Being faster, safer, and more cost-effective than manual tank entry.
- Eliminating production down time.
In addition to capturing internal footage of the tank, we also document all external components, including the tank shell and connections. According to TB203 standards, we are able to conduct ultrasonic thickness testing on the tank panels with an accuracy of +/- 0.01mm.
After the ROV inspection, we provide a comprehensive report detailing the condition of the tank, connections, and ancillary items, complete with photographs & video imagery. The report will also include a detailed list of recommended remedial actions for the tank.
